The Arquives 'third space' is a place where education and connection come together to form a community. The inclusive space is designed for self directed people interested in learning and supporting the LGBTQ2+ community. 401 Richmond St W is the historic building that will host The Arquives expansion. The third space is a circular two-storey hub which anchors the design. This hub can transform to be a gathering space, gallery, event or collaborative workspace with operable metal panels. The circle motif represents a continual path of change and acceptance; learning from the past to educate the future is an ongoing circular process. The design features transparent and user modified forms, reinforcing the Arquives philosophy of fostering a community that can make their place and take up space, one that looks at the past with transparency. It is a place of celebration where the community can come together to gather, connect and learn.
